Here is a quick recap of this week’s Panthers news:

What last weekend appeared to be a mundane week for the Panthers was anything but when Monday general manager Dave Gettleman was relieved of his duties. Jerry Richardson made the announcement via Panthers.com.

The Roaring Riot Podcast was released on Tuesday where we discussed in-depth the Gettleman firing.

More coverage of Gettleman’s firing and Hurney’s hiring can be found at various sources including The Riot Report, Carolina Huddle, USA Today Panthers Wire and more links which can be found at Roaring Riot Podcast.com.

On Wednesday it was confirmed that former Panthers General Manager Marty Hurney was brought in to serve as interim general manager. Hurney joined the Panthers front office in 1998 and was promoted to General Manager in 2002. He served as GM until October 2012 when he was fired after the Panthers abysmal 1-5 start. After he was fired the Panthers lose the following game against the Bears and former coach John Fox eventually finishing the season 7-9.

One day after bringing back Hurney, on Thursday the Panthers announced a 4-year, $45-million-dollar contract extension for offensive lineman Trai Turner. ProFootballTalk reports that Turner received a $15-million-dollar signing bonus. Cat Chronicles reports that Turner’s agreement makes him the NFL’s second-highest paid right guard behind Cleveland’s Kevin Zeitler {Zite-ler} who inked a 5-year, $60-million-dollar agreement with $23 million guaranteed. Please note: the Rewind is written throughout the week and our omission of news of the release Michael Oher is purely and 100% the fault of Dave Gettleman and no one else, especially the staff of the Roaring Riot Podcast.
